I originate from Kāti Māhaki ki Makaawhio on the West Coast of Te Wai Pounamu and I strongly believe in safeguarding the environment today to ensure a better tomorrow. My approach centres on simplifying and prioritising safety, while also highlighting positive aspects rather than dwelling on the negative.
I embarked on my career journey as a forest worker, then dedicated 15 years to serving in the New Zealand Army. Following that, I spent two decades in high-level Risk Management positions, leading sizable teams within multinational Oil & Gas companies across various countries, including Indonesia, Iraq, Nepal, Nigeria, Mozambique, Papua New Guinea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sierra Leone, and Sudan.
Since 2019 I have been working with and now lead Intesafety, operating across a diverse range of sectors such as ports, education, construction, manufacturing, fisheries, horticulture, viticulture, wineries, pre-cast, transportation, mining, quarries, road infrastructure, distilling, shipping, forestry, utilities, Māori enterprises, rugby, earthmoving, tourism, child safety, and many others. I have experience working with both small to medium-sized businesses and large corporations.
As an accomplished safety and risk professional with a broad industry background, I have developed a comprehensive understanding of workplace hazards spanning numerous sectors. This knowledge aids in the identification of critical risks and controls. I possess adept quality assessment skills, enabling rapid assimilation of workplace conditions and risks, resulting in the formulation of focused improvement plans centred around risk management. My approach adds substantial value to businesses without overcomplicating safety measures. I am a certified investigator and have conducted investigations into numerous serious workplace incidents and near misses throughout New Zealand, contributing to safer work environments nationwide.
