Christchurch Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is recognised nationally, and celebrated locally, for the depth of their work. CSO believes music enriches and transforms lives in different ways and provides a wide range of participatory media in which their audience can discover, encounter and enjoy great musical experiences. CSO contributes to the cultural diversity of the community through a full and varied concert season, as the orchestra of choice for many touring artists and partnering with other arts organisations such as the Royal New Zealand Ballet and NZ Opera. CSO’s Ki te Hapori In the Community programme comprises 60% of the orchestra’s output and includes school residencies, Men’s and Women’s Prison programmes, collaborations with Southern Music Therapy and BrainTree Wellness Centre, and interactive performances at libraries, retirement villages, and civic events. The orchestra is based in the purpose-built CSO Centre, co-located with the Christchurch Town Hall, at which they are the Orchestra in Residence.
