The Role
Based in Christchurch and reporting to the Technical Manager, this is a ‘hands on’ and multi-faceted position responsible for the design, development and testing of an array of instrument transformer products. You will work closely with the sales engineering, production, compliance and IANZ accredited test laboratory teams to deliver high quality, robust and compliant products. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to both technical engineering design and the testing and calibration of products critical to energy infrastructure, with potential to develop your leadership capabilities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and developing LV and MV instrument transformers, including new product development
- Producing and managing detailed CAD models, drawings and bills of material
- Supporting type testing, accuracy testing and high voltage validation
- Collaborating with cross functional teams to resolve design and testing challenges
- Assisting in compliance and certification activities aligned with AS/IEC 61869 standards
- Participating in failure investigations and driving continuous product improvement
- Maintaining clear and structured documentation in line with ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 17025
Skills and Experience
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering
- Understanding of instrument transformers and related electrical components
- Experience in a product design, manufacturing or testing environment
- Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor preferred)
- Familiarity with compliance standards and design for manufacture principles
- Practical, hands-on approach with a strong focus on problem solving
- Clear communication skills and ability to work cross functionally
