About the role
The Marine Team provide towage and pilotage services to Port Marlborough’s shipping customers and are responsible for management and maintenance of the company’s marine fleet which is made up of two modern harbour tugs, a purpose-built pilot vessel, and other smaller work craft. They now have need for an additional Marine Engineer to join their team and provide engineering services for vessel operation and maintenance.
Based in Picton and reporting to the Marine Manager this is a fulltime and permanent role. Key to your success will be your ability to provide professional engineering services to operate the Port’s tugs and pilot vessel, as well as providing engineering planning and services to maintain all floating plant.
Working with a committed and versatile team, you will provide crewing services across the fleet to optimise efficiency. This position works on a rostered basis and a degree of flexibility is needed to meet the 24/7 requirements of shipping operations.
About you
As the successful applicant you will hold a Mechanical Marine Engineer Class 5 or higher ticket and have proven marine engineering experience, ideally working on harbour tugs, however experience on similar vessel types is of interest. You will be committed to working as part of a high-functioning team, will have great interpersonal and communication skills, and a positive and proactive approach. A current Marine Medical and full NZ driver’s licence are required and a skippers ticket would be beneficial.
