Pou Amotake / Senior Executive Assistant

Te Here Ā Nuku I Making The Tenths Whole

  • Nelson
  • Permanent

About Te Here-ā-Nuku Trust
Te Here-ā-Nuku is an intergenerational endowment trust for the collective benefit of Ngā Uri. With origins dating back to 1845, the Trust has a long history, including generations of advocacy and legal proceedings by whānau to restore the rights and interests of Ngā Uri in the whenua and other taonga of the Nelson Tenths. This new chapter exists because of their efforts.

Following the return of the Trust to the control of Ngā Uri, we are now building a small team and establishing the operations, relationships and systems needed to fulfil our responsibilities to Ngā Uri, care for the whenua and taonga, and support the Trust’s purpose for generations to come.

There is important mahi ahead, and we are building carefully. We are looking for people who bring sound judgement, initiative, humility and integrity, alongside a genuine commitment to working with others in service of Ngā Uri.

Te Āheinga/The Opportunity
Reporting to the Transitional Executive Manager, the Pou Amotake / Senior Executive Assistant will provide high-level executive and governance support while helping establish the operations and ways of working of Te Here-ā-Nuku.
This is an opportunity for an experienced Executive Assistant who enjoys working closely with senior leaders, takes initiative and can make a real contribution beyond traditional executive support.

You will help manage the Transitional Executive Manager’s priorities, anticipate what is needed and ensure important matters are progressed. Your responsibilities will include coordinating Trustee and Committee meetings, preparing correspondence, papers and briefing material, managing actions and commitments, and working closely with Trustees, advisers and external partners.

There are few established systems and no large team behind you, so you will need to be comfortable doing the mahi yourself as well as helping shape how it is done. You will help develop the systems and practical ways of working needed to support the organisation, take responsibility for progressing your work and contribute ideas about how things could be done better.

Mōhou ake/About You
You will be an experienced Executive Assistant or senior executive support professional with a track record of supporting senior leaders and managing a broad range of priorities. You will bring excellent organisational and communication skills, sound judgement and the confidence to take initiative, anticipate needs and follow matters through to completion. You will also understand the importance of handling sensitive information with discretion.

Strong written communication skills are important, including the ability to prepare clear, well-structured correspondence, papers and briefing material. Experience supporting Boards, Trustees or Committees and confidence working with senior stakeholders will be highly valued.

You will be adaptable, practical and comfortable working independently and taking responsibility for the detail in an environment where systems and processes are still being established.

Experience working in a kaupapa Māori environment would be an advantage, alongside a genuine willingness to learn and contribute.

Ngā Painga o te Hono ki Te Here-ā-Nuku /Why Join Te Here-ā-Nuku?
This is an opportunity to contribute to the establishment of an organisation with an enduring purpose. You will work closely with the Transitional Executive Manager and Trustees, contribute your experience and ideas, and help shape the ways of working that will support Te Here-ā-Nuku into the future.

The work you do now will help establish the foundations for how the Trust operates and serves Ngā Uri for generations to come. If you would like to be part of this next chapter for Te Here-ā-Nuku, we welcome your application.
