About NBS
NBS is a Building Society founded in 1862, a mutual entity, owned by clients, and incorporated under the Building Societies Act 1965. With a proud history and exciting future, NBS is dedicated to seeing communities, individuals, families, and businesses thrive.
With a focus on delivering exceptional experiences for clients and communities, NBS is investing in leadership capability, digital solutions, and operational excellence across the business.
NBS is entering an exciting phase of growth and transformation. Having significantly strengthened its risk and compliance capability in recent years, they are now seeking an experienced Chief Risk Officer to help shape the organisation’s next chapter.
The Role
This is a key executive role on the Senior Leadership Team. Reporting to the Chief Executive, with a dotted line to the Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee, you will lead Enterprise Risk, Credit, Compliance, and Legal, and be NBS’s senior voice on risk with the Board and regulators.
The Deposit Takers Act is the biggest programme on NBS’s horizon. You will lead its governance, risk, and relicensing work, ensuring risk management enables sustainable growth.
About You
You are an experienced risk leader from banking or financial services, ideally already a CRO or Deputy CRO, with deep enterprise risk and assurance expertise and the credibility to work with boards and regulators. Knowledge of the Deposit Takers Act is a strong advantage.
How you lead matters just as much. Like every NBS executive, you will have the flexibility and style to operate at both a strategic and operational level when necessary.
Nelson-based is preferred. Hybrid options will be considered for candidates who can maintain a strong in-person presence with the leadership team.
Applications close Sunday 8 November 2026.
