Our client, a well-regarded local authority in the lower South Island, is seeking an experienced Financial Controller for a 12-month contract. The role will focus primarily on delivering the organisation’s Long Term Plan.
An LTP is a significant project in its own right, it has many parts and needs input from across the whole organisation. The successful contractor will lead the financial side of this work, working closely with teams across the organisation along with the executive team.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the financial side of the LTP, from forecasting and modelling through to the final document
- Work with asset managers, activity managers, the executive team and elected members to turn priorities into a credible financial strategy
- Prepare and review financial forecasts, funding and rating models, and the supporting information the LTP needs
- Oversee day to day financial control and reporting, and support the finance team
- Present complex financial information clearly to key stakeholders.
Skills and experience
- Proven, hands-on Long Term Plan experience in local government (essential)
- A strong background in NZ local government finance, with a good understanding of the sector’s legislative and reporting framework
- Experience at Financial Controller level or similar
- A CA or CPA qualification, or equivalent
- Strong stakeholder skills, with the credibility to work at all levels, including with elected members
- Proven ability to manage complex projects with many contributors and fixed deadlines
