Corcon and Storcon NZ are Christchurch-based construction businesses under common ownership, with sixteen years of delivery behind them in the commercial market. Corcon specialises in design and build, full turnkey large industrial and commercial warehouses. Storcon NZ specialises in the design and construction of self-storage facilities. Both operate a full-turnkey model, taking projects from inception to build completion and close.

Rapid growth and an expanding project management team mean the shareholders are now ready to appoint the group’s first Operations Manager. This is a newly created role with real influence over how the two growing businesses are run.

About the role

You’ll be the operational engine of both businesses, taking ownership of everything outside of sales so the Managing Director can focus on growth.

You’ll lead and mentor the project management team rather than run projects yourself, while retaining the credibility to get into the detail of a build directly when it’s needed. You’ll hold delivery to the two measures that matter, on time and on budget, across a subcontractor delivery model. Managing variations, reviewing subcontractor pricing and protecting quality on site will all sit with you.

As the senior point of contact for clients, you will chair design meetings, protect long-standing relationships, take ownership of project communication and ensure clients have a clear, professional and consistent point of contact from project commencement to completion.

Alongside delivery, you’ll drive systems and process improvement, including fuller adoption of AI across relevant workflows. You won’t carry sales or finance responsibility, but you will have full visibility of project financials and budgets.

Your Skills and Experience

• Commercially focused with a proven track record in commercial construction, most likely as a senior project manager or operations lead
• Experience running multiple concurrent projects, with the commercial acumen to meet the programme, margin and budget across a portfolio rather than a single site
• Expertise managing subcontractor-led delivery models, variations and pricing
• The ability to lead and mentor project managers, and the willingness to step into a project management role directly when required
• Confident, client-facing communication skills and the presence to represent the business at a senior level
• Systems literacy and a continuous improvement mindset

This role will suit an experienced construction leader ready to step up to full operational ownership, who wants the pace, autonomy and visibility of an owner-led business on a strong growth path.
