Our Client
Technology Queenstown (TQ) was founded in 2024 with an audacious goal: build a $1 billion, world-leading technology sector in the Queenstown Lakes District within 20 years, taking technology from under 2% of local GDP to more than 15%, and creating a new wave of high-value jobs along the way.
TQ is a privately funded not-for-profit agency backed by leading enterprises that are passionate about creating economic growth in regional New Zealand and diversifying the Queenstown Lakes economy. For more information go to http://www.technologyqueenstown.com/
About the role
Technology Queenstown has moved from start-up to scale-up with a defined strategic focus on Travel & Hospitality Technology, leveraging its deep sector knowledge, global relationships and a flagship conference platform through WiT Queenstown. With the strategy set, the profile building and international relationships opening doors, it now needs someone to convert this to results on the ground.
Working with the Chair, who is TQ’s principal champion and senior external connector for Travel & Hospitality Tech, your role will be to convert that strategic access and momentum into disciplined, visible activity on the ground in Queenstown enabling TQ to reach its goals.
Your skills and experience
This is neither a global industry rainmaker role, nor a conventional economic-development position. You will be a practical, externally credible technology ecosystem leader who can operate comfortably with founders, local operators, sponsors, educators, public bodies, large corporates and senior industry figures, combining strategic judgement with a delivery orientation.
No single person is likely to bring all the ideal attributes, so we welcome applications that bring a diverse range of skills and experience that include:
- A credible understanding of the Travel & Hospitality Tech ecosystem
- Technology sector fluency with an understanding how tech companies are formed, funded, built and scaled – whether you have led, invested or built them yourself
- Local relationship leadership with a genuine track record of building trust and momentum across diverse stakeholders and partners
- Public advocacy and communication experience including confidence working with media, public speaking, stakeholder presentations and written communication
- A practical ecosystem builder who can design, build and operate a serious travel tech startup programme
- The ability to turn senior relationships into commitments, pilots and measurable outcomes
