Tasman Pine Forests Ltd operates in the Tasman, Nelson, and Marlborough regions, with an office located just outside Wakefield in the Tasman District. The company manages more than 35,000 hectares of land, including nearly 29,000 hectares of planted production forestry.
They are seeking an experienced senior Forest Information & GIS Analyst to lead and support the company’s GIS and forest information systems across forestry, harvesting, and administrative teams.
About the role
The role centres on maintaining, developing, and analysing key forestry datasets. You will undertake spatial analysis, support reporting requirements, and ensure information is accessible across a range of platforms. You will work closely with teams across the business, particularly forest operations and harvesting, while also providing data and statistics for administrative reporting.
Working alongside another GIS professional, you will help oversee the company’s GIS environment and collaborate with contracted IT specialists to manage systems including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Server, SQL Server, and Azure Virtual Desktop.
The Forest Information System is underpinned by customised Python scripts within ArcGIS Pro, supporting the development and maintenance of operational datasets and enabling field access through tools such as Field Maps and Survey123. You will play a key role in planning and evolving the GIS programme, including its integration with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and deep learning.
It is a highly dynamic and programmable system, with updates and enhancements delivered by the in-house GIS team, supported by specialist external contractors as required.
About you as a candidate
To be successful in this role you will bring;
- A relevant qualification in GIS, forestry, environmental science, geography, computer information systems, or a related field
- Strong experience with ArcGIS software, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Field Maps, and Survey123
- Experience in forestry or natural resource management would be an advantage
- A minimum of 5 years of experience working in a senior GIS Analyst role is preferred

- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment
- Highly developed analytical skills and a strong attention to accuracy
- Motivation to develop new solutions in a highly dynamic computer environment
If you are wanting to work for a sustainable forestry management organisation where you can directly contribute to the management and development of the forest estate then we would love to hear from you.
