Trustee – Treasurer

CoCA

  • Canterbury
  • Governance

The Centre of Contemporary Art Toi Moroki (CoCA) is a leading art gallery in Ōtautahi Christchurch which is committed to cultivating a programme of contemporary art exhibitions and events that deepen community connections. Since its establishment in 1880, CoCA has been recognised as an important part of the local arts ecology: critical for the development of artists at different stages of their careers and disciplines. Fast forward to today and its refreshed strategic framework, and newly created programming panel of experienced arts practitioners has enabled CoCA to go from strength to strength with their sights now firmly set on the long term future. For more information go to www.coca.org.nz

Expressions of interest are now being sought from individuals interested in joining CoCA as a Trustee.  As CoCA reimagines the future whilst building on a strong legacy, this role offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute at the governance level and support the organisation’s continued impact within the Ōtautahi Christchurch arts ecosystem.

This appointment will appeal to an experienced finance professional who brings sound judgement, a collaborative approach and a genuine interest in the arts. As a member of the Board, you will contribute actively around the governance table, provide financial oversight and support the organisation to operate sustainably while delivering on its purpose and vision.

CoCA is particularly interested in strategic thinking candidates who bring experience and credibility in the following areas:

  • Experience in accountancy, ideally with a small to medium business focus
  • Genuine passion for the arts and a commitment to CoCA’s purpose
  • Sound financial judgement with the ability to translate this into practical governance advice

In this role you will chair the Finance Subcommittee and provide leadership on financial oversight matters. This includes attending monthly Board meetings, reviewing financial reports prepared by the Operations Manager, supporting the preparation of annual financial statements and coordination of the audit process and assisting with the development and review of the annual budget. You will attend monthly Finance Subcommittee meetings via Zoom and participate in full Board meetings in person. The role will also contribute to initiatives aimed at strengthening and diversifying CoCA’s funding streams.
