The Role
Located in Balclutha and reporting to the Chief Executive, this role plays a crucial leadership role in delivering water infrastructure asset services. As a Senior Leadership Team member, you will provide strategic leadership, show support for the Council’s vision and priorities and fulfil statutory responsibilities. You will lead beyond your portfolio, contribute to organisational outcomes and model high performance public services behaviours and culture. This role is responsible for a team of 43 staff plus operational contractors.
You Will
- Be responsible for Three Waters assets, including compliance with drinking water standards and resource consents
- Work closely with the Council’s Infrastructure Strategy and Delivery Team to develop capital upgrades in their programme of planned works
- Lead and support your team to deliver high quality operational performance
- Manage operations staff, budgets, operational contracts and involvement in capital projects
- Provide regular updates to Council on Three Waters activities
- Liaise with suppliers, contractors, stakeholders and regulators
Your Skills and Experience
- A Civil Engineering degree or an equivalent Washington Accord degree level qualification, and desirably hold IPENZ Membership and CPEng status
- Proven leadership experience in the Three Waters operational environment
- Experience leading people through change and process improvement in complex environments
- Extensive civil engineering experience in the water services area
- Strong technical knowledge of water treatment processes and systems
- Suitable asset management and maintenance experience
- Multi-year, multi-million dollar maintenance contract management experience
- Experience of Local Authority processes would be advantageous
