About the role
The Marine Team provides towage and pilotage services to Port Marlborough’s shipping customers and is responsible for the management and maintenance of the company’s marine fleet, made up of two harbour tugs, with another new ASD Tug currently under procurement, a purpose-built pilot vessel, and other smaller work craft. Port Marlborough is growing its Marine Team. Currently, they have 3 full-time Tug Masters and a Relief Tug Master and are now looking for an additional Tug Master to join their experienced and capable team.
Based in Picton and reporting to the Marine Manager, this is a full-time and permanent position. Your focus is to provide professional navigation command of the PMNZ tugs. The Tug Master may be assigned a tug for which they will, in collaboration with the Marine Engineer, provide maintenance planning and services (including vessel compliance and survey requirements) to meet all requirements of the Marine Transport Operator Plan (MTOP). This role also provides crewing services as required across the fleet to optimise efficiency overall for the Marine Services operation. This may require taking command of, or crewing, other PMNZ vessels such as the Pilot boat or work boats. This position works on a rostered basis and a degree of flexibility is needed to meet the 24/7 requirements of shipping operations.
About you
The successful applicant will have extensive boat handling experience, specifically with ASD tugs. You will hold a current Skipper Restricted Limits with endorsement over 24m or higher, a Marine Medical, First Aid Certificate and a full NZ drivers licence. Working as part of a committed a high-functioning team, you will have great interpersonal and communication skills and a positive, proactive approach.
