The Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce is the region’s leading business network, representing 540+ organisations and more than 8,300 people. The Chamber connects, supports and advocates for local businesses while helping shape a successful regional economy. With a capable team, supportive Board and strong partnerships, it is well positioned for future growth.
About the role
This is an outward-facing leadership role. You will be the face and voice of the Chamber, building trusted relationships across the business community, advocating for members, growing strategic partnerships and sponsorships, and leading a small, high-performing team to deliver real value for local businesses.
Reporting to the Board, you will:
- Deliver the Chamber’s strategy and future growth, ensuring the organisation remains financially sustainable and operationally resilient.
- Strengthen and grow relationships with members, sponsors, councils, central government and regional partners.
- Champion the interests that matter to local businesses through effective advocacy and public leadership.
- Grow membership, increase engagement and develop sustainable revenue through sponsorship, events and programmes.
- Lead and develop a capable, engaged team and oversee events, training and contracted business support services.
About you
We’re looking for a confident, authentic leader who is energised by people, a natural connector and comfortable working across all levels of the community.
You will bring:
- Executive leadership experience with responsibility for strategy, people, financial performance and board engagement.
- A strong track record of commercial performance, revenue generation or business development.
- The confidence to advocate, promote and represent organisations publicly.
- Strong influencing, communication and presentation skills and political awareness.
- Financial, commercial and strategic acumen.
- A collaborative and hands-on leadership style.
Experience within membership organisations, business associations, economic development, not-for-profit or community-focused organisations will be advantageous, but we are open to candidates from a broad range of sectors.
This is a rare opportunity to lead a respected organisation and play a key role in shaping the future success of the Nelson Tasman business community.
