Our Client
Our client is a well-established, multi-office chartered professional services firm with a strong reputation across the South Island. They’re known for cultivating genuine, long-term relationships, a diverse client base across a wide range of industries, and a values-led team culture. It’s recognised by their own team, earning the business a Great Place To Work Certification for 2026–2027. 87% of employees say new starters are made to feel welcome from day one. It’s the kind of environment where a strong compliance culture can thrive, and you’ll be helping lead this.
The Role
Reporting to the General Manager, you’ll take the lead on the firm’s compliance function, overseeing approval processes and providing technical oversight of the transactional compliance work carried out by other team members. You’ll take ownership of the firm’s regulatory, professional, and legislative obligations, building and maintaining a strong compliance culture across the organisation.
You’ll oversee AML/CFT programmes, including captured activities, customer due diligence and risk assessments, internal audit processes, and staying ahead of legislative change. Acting as a Privacy Officer, you’ll also maintain privacy policies and procedures, manage enquiries and incidents, and act as an external liaison should the need arise.
You’ll maintain a risk register, monitor emerging compliance and governance risks – including AI and data governance and provide regular reporting to the General Manager and Partners. You’ll also oversee Companies Office administration and trust account compliance, regulatory requirements and quality control processes, and deliver training to build compliance capability across the firm.
Skills and Experience
You’ll bring proven experience in a compliance leadership role, ideally within accounting, legal or financial services, along with a strong working knowledge of AML/CFT legislation and the confidence to lead audits, reviews and regulatory processes.
Experience in a Privacy Officer capacity, or a solid understanding of privacy law and incident management, is highly regarded. You’ll be a natural leader and mentor, comfortable developing the capability of a small team, with the judgement to investigate, assess and make sound calls independently.
Strong communication skills are essential, along with the confidence to report to and advise at General Manager and Partner level.
