Our Client
With over 60 years in business, Ashton Wheelans is a gold-standard chartered accounting firm with offices across Christchurch, Rangiora, the West Coast, Oamaru and Wanaka, serving a diverse and loyal client base across a wide range of industries.
Ashton Wheelans are more than just accountants – they’re trusted advisors focused on staying ahead of the curve, driving growth, and building genuine, long-term relationships. They call it “Shaping Success,” and it shows up in how the team works together as much as how they work with clients. Find out more about Ashton Wheelans here: https://www.ashtonwheelans.co.nz/
The Greymouth office is a well-established practice with deep roots on the Coast, backed by the scale, systems and specialist expertise of the wider firm.
The Role
You’ll manage your own portfolio end to end: annual financial statements, income tax and GST, tax planning and advisory, and the client conversations that go with it. You’ll be a review point for the work of the wider team, and you’ll bring the kind of steady technical judgement that lifts everyone around you.
Working closely with the Partners, you’ll support them in their roles and take real ownership of the work alongside them. Just as importantly, you’ll help grow the team, mentoring the junior and intermediate accountants, sharing your knowledge, and investing in their development as much as your own.
The Ashton Wheelan’s offices work closely together and share resources, so there’s scope to get involved across the South Island – including exposure to the firm’s agri client base.
Skills and Experience
You’ll be CA-qualified, or have the equivalent experience under your belt, with a strong grounding in New Zealand tax and compliance. Beyond the technical, you’ll be someone who can run jobs independently, deal directly with Partners and clients, and keep things moving.
Exposure to a broad range of industries is valuable. Agri exposure is a bonus rather than a requirement – there’s plenty of support in the firm if you want to build it.
Whether you’re ready to move up to review level, or keen to grow a team and pass on what you know, this is a rare opportunity in a firm with the scale to back it.
