Port Marlborough is a diverse and forward-thinking regional port and marina business, supporting a wide range of shipping, marine and infrastructure activities across Waitohi/Picton, Havelock and the Marlborough Sounds. With a vision to lead the way as an environmentally restorative port, Port Marlborough is committed to creating lasting value for the region, its people and the environment.
Guided by five strategic pillars — People, Planet, Prosperity, Partnerships and Performance — Port Marlborough is a values-driven organisation where Hauora, Kaitiakitanga, Mahi Tahi, Pono and Kairangatira shape the way the team works every day.
About the role
Port Marlborough continues to invest in its infrastructure and assets, creating an excellent opportunity for an adaptable General Engineer to join its Workshop team.
Reporting to the Mechanical Lead and working alongside experienced tradespeople, you’ll undertake a broad range of engineering, maintenance and construction work across the Port’s facilities and infrastructure. This includes fitting and welding, hydraulic equipment, water reticulation, plant maintenance, scheduled inspections and infrastructure repairs.
Working collaboratively across trades and the wider organisation, you’ll play an important role in delivering practical, high-quality solutions that keep essential port operations running safely and efficiently. The role includes a share of rostered on-call duties providing 24/7 emergency cover for critical port infrastructure.
About you
You’ll be a practical, trade-qualified engineer who enjoys variety and takes pride in delivering quality workmanship. You’ll be adaptable, proactive and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
You’ll bring sound engineering skills, experience with welding and general maintenance, and the ability to problem-solve in a practical environment. Strong communication skills, a commitment to teamwork and a focus on health and safety are essential.
A relevant engineering trade qualification and full New Zealand driver’s licence are required.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a respected local employer where you’ll enjoy varied work, a supportive team environment and the opportunity to contribute to the infrastructure that keeps Marlborough connected.
Port Marlborough is committed to providing a safe working environment and will undertake a pre-employment medical assessment, including drug and alcohol screening.
To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand. We are unable to consider applications from candidates who do not currently hold valid work eligibility in New Zealand.
