Foundation Director

Canterbury Medical Research Foundation

  • Canterbury
  • Permanent

Our Client:
The Canterbury Medical Research Foundation (CMRF) has been dedicated to advancing world-class medical research across the Canterbury region for over 62 years. Through strong partnerships with researchers, universities, clinicians and donors, the Foundation plays a critical role in improving health outcomes and supporting innovation in medical science.  With a well-established investment base, CMRF is entering an exciting new phase focused on growth, seeking to expand its impact by strengthening its profile, broadening its funding base and building sustainable revenue streams to support future research.  For more information, please visit: http://www.cmrf.org.nz

The Role:
We are seeking a commercially astute and well-connected leader to guide CMRF through its next phase of growth and impact. Reporting to the Board, the Foundation Director will be responsible for diversifying the Foundation’s funding streams, elevating its profile and building enduring relationships across medical, philanthropic and business communities.  A key focus of the role will be identifying and unlocking new funding opportunities beyond traditional sources. You will take a proactive approach to business development, engaging credibly with major donors, corporate partners and professional networks to build a diversified funding model.  You will also act as the public face of the Foundation, representing CMRF across Canterbury and the wider South Island, while working closely with the Board to shape the organisation’s future strategy.  As the senior leader at CMRF you will be responsible for leading the team to success and achieving the strategic direction for the organisation.  This is a part-time leadership position offering flexibility and the opportunity to contribute at a strategic level while maintaining a portfolio career.

The Person:
To succeed in this role, you will be a relationship-driven leader with strong commercial acumen and a track record of delivering results through business development, partnerships or fundraising.  You will bring the confidence and capability to engage senior stakeholders and will be comfortable identifying opportunities, initiating conversations and securing support.  Your ability to build trust and long-term relationships across diverse groups from donors and corporate partners through to researchers and community stakeholders will be critical.  You are likely to have already been operating previously at a senior leadership level and will be comfortable working closely with a governance board.  However, equally important will be your ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on delivery in a small, agile organisation.  This role requires an engaging communicator and natural storyteller who can clearly articulate the impact of medical research and inspire others to support the Foundation’s mission.  A genuine interest in community impact and advancing medical research will underpin your motivation to apply.
