Nelson Pine Industries is one of the Nelson/Tasman region’s most significant and long‑standing manufacturing employers, producing high‑quality MDF, LVL and veneer products for domestic and global markets. We are seeking an experienced operational leader for the role of Chief Operating Officer to oversee all functions across their large‑scale 24/7 manufacturing site. This is a rare opportunity to take on a pivotal role overseeing one of New Zealand’s most complex continuous‑process manufacturing environments.
The Role
Reporting to the CEO and leading more than 200 staff across multiple onsite operations, you will be accountable for driving production performance, plant optimisation, safety, environmental compliance and continuous improvement initiatives in production, engineering, quality and despatch. You will also lead capital project proposals and delivery, and play a key role in shaping operational strategy, workforce planning and organisational capability.
About You
We’re looking for someone with strong experience in large-scale manufacturing—ideally panel manufacturing, engineered wood, sawmilling, or other high‑volume, advanced processing environments. Experience with multi‑shift operations and leading diverse operational teams is essential. Excellent relationship-building skills and a strong understanding of H&S and employment frameworks are required. Experience working with large‑scale production data systems or engineering systems will be highly valued.
This role may suit either a seasoned operations manager or a high-potential leader ready to progress into a senior operations role.
Nelson Pine Industries offers a unique opportunity to be part of a world-class manufacturing business with a strong focus on sustainability and innovation. This is a chance to lead one of New Zealand’s most significant continuous‑process manufacturing sites while enjoying the lifestyle benefits of living in Nelson.
Applications close on Sunday 15 March 2026.
