Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ) champions, connects and supports local government, advocating on critical issues, decoding and supporting policy development while making submissions in support of the sector. LGNZ connect members through networks, sector events and a must-attend annual conference that fosters collaboration and shared learnings. Te āhua o te tūrunga | The nature of the position
As Chief Executive, you will lead LGNZ with vision, integrity and influence, working in partnership with the National Council and President to deliver on the organisations strategic priorities and strengthen the collective voice of local government.

This role provides a unique opportunity to shape national dialogue and policy by advocating on behalf of local government at the highest political levels. You will oversee LGNZ’s strategic planning, advocacy and operational delivery, ensuring members are well supported, informed and connected, and that LGNZ remains the respected voice for the sector. Leading a talented team, you will foster a high-performing and collaborative culture that delivers meaningful outcomes for the sector and communities they serve and represent.

Ngā tino pūkenga me wheako | Essential knowledge, skills and experiences
To succeed in this role, you will bring strategic insight and the ability to influence across a diverse range of stakeholders. With extensive executive experience within government, member advocacy or policy environments, you will demonstrate strong political acumen, the capability to navigate complex policy settings, lead strategy implementation, stakeholder engagement, organisational performance and commercial oversight.

A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and to building authentic partnerships with Iwi is essential, along with exceptional communication and relationship management skills, building trust, inspire confidence and represent the interests of members with professionalism and empathy.
