The Role
Located in Balclutha and reporting to the Operations Manager, this role will lead and develop the Waste and Greenspace team involved in the provision of contract management for Council’s Waste Management Services and Parks and Reserves. This role is responsible for a team of 3 staff and operations contractors.
You Will:
- Lead and support the team to deliver high quality operational performance across Waste and Greenspace services, fostering effective relationships and a high performance culture
- Oversee the delivery of Waste Management Services and Parks and Reserves projects and programmes, ensuring they meet Council’s operational objectives
- Supervise contractors and suppliers, ensuring that contracts are delivered to specification and within agreed timelines and budgets
- Monitor operational performance, identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as required
- Ensure compliance with health and safety policies, promoting a positive team culture around health, safety and wellbeing
- Supervise the various Parks, Reserves and Cemeteries functions, providing guidance and support, escalating issues as required
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of contract performance, risks and achievements to senior leadership and key stakeholders
Your Skills and Experience:
- A relevant qualification in a related field such as a Diploma qualification in equivalent level of knowledge (Level 6 or old NZ certificate) or a degree or contract management qualifications
- Contract and maintenance management experience inclusive of understanding NZS3910 and NZS3917
- Experience in Waste Management, Greenspace operations or related fields, with a strong focus on team management and contract supervision
- Proven team leadership experience with the ability to develop and coach a team
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex operations, supervise staff and manage contractor performance to meet agreed outcomes
- Experience in managing operational budgets, ensuring financial targets are met and driving cost effective delivery of services
- An understanding of Local Government processes and the ability to liaise effectively with internal teams, contractors and external stakeholders
- Sound knowledge of health and safety legislation, with a commitment to ensuring a safe and compliant working environment
- Communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of fostering positive working relationships across teams and with stakeholders
