At Brannigans, we’re proud to support and celebrate organisations making a real difference in our communities. Recently, our For-Purpose Lead, Kase Craig, had the privilege of connecting with two inspiring groups in Ōtautahi Christchurch: Jolt Dance and the Laura Fergusson Brain Injury Trust. Both are doing remarkable work to empower, uplift, and create opportunities for people in our region.
Jolt Dance – celebrating diversity through movement
Kase attended a rehearsal with the incredible team at Jolt Dance at the Isaac Theatre Royal. Watching the dancers in action was truly inspiring – their passion, energy, and dedication to inclusive dance was evident in every movement.
Jolt’s upcoming performance, See Me Go, promises to be a celebration of diversity and connection. Featuring more than 120 Jolt dancers alongside guest artists such as Yarnarchists, NZTrio, and Christchurch Symphony Orchestra musicians Helen Webby and Margo Askin, the show will be sensory, responsive, and imaginative. It’s an event not to be missed, highlighting the power of dance to bring people together and create shared experiences.
Laura Fergusson Brain Injury Trust – supporting recovery and resilience
Kase also met with Kathryn Jones, CEO of the Laura Fergusson Brain Injury Trust, and toured their Christchurch offices. The Trust is preparing to launch an exciting new project early next year, aimed at enhancing rehabilitation and support for people living with brain injuries.
During the visit, Kathryn kindly gifted Kase two powerful books. The first is a collection of twelve personal stories from individuals who have experienced traumatic brain injuries, often referred to as the “silent epidemic.” These stories offer raw insight into the challenges of life after brain injury, as well as hope and guidance for others navigating similar paths.
The second book explores concussion, an often-invisible injury. While many recover quickly, others live with long-term effects, and this resource provides valuable advice and perspectives on recovery.
The Trust’s team is dedicated and compassionate, offering a wide range of services to help people on their rehabilitation journey. It was a privilege for Brannigans to learn more about the impact they’re making every day.
Continuing to shine a light
Both Jolt Dance and the Laura Fergusson Brain Injury Trust demonstrate the extraordinary impact that for-purpose organisations have in our communities. Their work not only enriches lives but also builds stronger, more connected communities for us all.
