Key Responsibilities
Based in Christchurch and reporting to the Director, this is a rare opportunity to lead and deliver a high profile capital campaign and shape a legacy project of national significance. The Air Force Museum of New Zealand Te Whakairinga Mutu is seeking an experienced Capital Campaign Manager to drive strategy and secure the remaining investment required to build a new Exhibition Hall for the recently retired P-3 Orion and C-130 Hercules aircraft which are icons with deep connections to New Zealand’s history, including the Christchurch earthquakes and international humanitarian missions. With a major contribution already committed by Christchurch City Council, you will work closely with the Director and Board to establish and lead a phased campaign framework. Your responsibilities will include developing campaign strategy, cultivating donor relationships, preparing compelling proposals and driving stakeholder engagement across Government, philanthropic, corporate and community channels. You will leverage the compelling national narrative surrounding the Hercules and Orion, well known as symbols of service, sacrifice and connection, to deliver this project ahead of the Royal New Zealand Air Force’s 90th anniversary in April 2027. This role requires both strategic leadership and practical delivery, with a strong emphasis on relationship building and influence at all levels. By activating existing networks and establishing new partnerships, you will play a pivotal role in realising a project of enduring national importance.
Your Skills and Experience
To succeed in this role, you will bring a strong track record in leading large scale strategic, capital campaigns and securing funding across diverse channels. You will be a confident relationship-builder skilled at engaging major donors, philanthropic trusts, corporate partners and key Government stakeholders. Your ability to communicate with clarity and influence will be essential to leading the campaign with credibility and clarity to secure the necessary investment required for a project of national importance. Comfortable operating at senior levels, you also will engage effectively with Boards, civic leaders and sector figures, while driving delivery from strategy through to execution with sound project management and commercial acumen. Strategic in outlook and results-focused, you will bring a values led, collaborative style that reflects the kaupapa of the Air Force Museum. An appreciation for New Zealand’s aviation heritage, both civil and humanitarian, along with a working knowledge of the philanthropic sector will be important, as will your ability to activate networks and deliver meaningful outcomes.
