In the 20 years before I began working for Brannigans, I managed businesses and teams across a range of industries – mainly in hospitality, but also in advertising, tourism, telecommunications and sales. I felt like I needed a change and wanted a role where I could make use of my knowledge and skills. HR seemed like the natural choice!

I really enjoy sharing my own knowledge and experience in my role as a People Consultant. Being able to empathise with the clients through my own experiences really helps – I know how the client feels having to make those difficult decisions and I also know what’s worked for me and what hasn’t. My experience enables me to be pragmatic and I’ve got an open mind about solutions. I’m always learning innovative things and reading about new ideas happening out there in the world. HR changes all the time so you have to keep up to date and stay adaptable.

We’re fluid here at Brannigans. We know what works for one company may not work for another, so I like working with clients to figure out the best solution for them. The work is varied and interesting; you’re in and out of the office, dealing with a huge range of people-related issues and challenges. I’m definitely one of those people who needs a lot of variation in my life. The team I work with are a diverse bunch and we all share the same passion – to help make things better for clients and candidates alike. I feel a bit like a matchmaker when it comes to recruitment. Sometimes you can have the most amazing person and the most amazing job, but they just don’t fit and you realise it’s not going to be a marriage made in heaven. A good result means I make sure it’s a win-win for everyone.

I’m a bit of an open book so I’m also quite honest with clients and I’m really strong on building relationships – it’s the cornerstone of being a successful consultant.

Outside of work, my time is spent with my family and friends. I live on a rural lifestyle block outside of Christchurch which is perfect for my main passion – horse riding. As a parent, I’m also involved with Pony Club and the A&P Association, plus like most parents I spend a lot of time watching my kids play sport.
